Decatur
City Schools Get Ready for the 2nd Annual
River City Film Festival
Decatur, AL – February 3, 2012 - Students
at Decatur City Schools are putting the final touches on movies for
screening at the second annual River City Film Festival, March 24 at the
historic Princess Theatre Center for the Performing Arts. Austin
High School has been offering video production for several years. One
of the intentions of the class and festival is to highlight
opportunities in a medium that has become more financially accessible to
young and emerging film and video-makers over the past decade.
Students are able to involve themselves in all aspects of production
from scripting and talent acquisition, camera, sound and lighting
techniques, to creative editing and more. Showing their final creation
on the Princess Theatre's big screen brings the experience full circle.
“Our students are excited to be able to submit their works at the River
City Film Festival at the Princess Theatre,” said
Warren McLemore, Art and Video Studies at Austin HS and River City Film
Festival Committee member. He
continued, “Each year brings a new group of talented students to the
classroom. We use video as a
tool to nurture that creative talent and enable the students to find
their strengths in a medium they might not have explored before. It
becomes more than point and shoot. It’s
design. It’s sound. It’s
storytelling.”
